I’m compelled to offer a quick follow-up to my last post in response to invaluable (anonymous) feedback.
“Nonsensical racial assignations” (BTW, I’m honored anyone got that far into the post) explicitly refers to the failure of any symobolic system to establish coherent meaning for “race” as a delineating division or distinction within the human race.
The system is failing to establish any intelligible meaning for “black” and “white” as a definition/distinction for race.
Merriam-Webster defines race as “any one of the groups that humans are often divided into based on physical traits regarded as common among people of shared ancestry”.
Additionally,
Race is a fluid concept used to group people according to various factors including, ancestral background and social identity. Race is also used to group people that share a set of visible characteristics, such as skin color and facial features.1
Race and skin color don’t correlate:
Census data for “Black” and “White” are not reflections of skin color
Prejudices exist based on skin color, ethnicity, class and la vie … not census-identity
Policies based on race when color / class cause biases will be misguided.
That’s my point. Not to diminish other factors, but to say…the cure must address the cause.
I intend to delve further. Feedback is noted/bookmarked.
I appreciate any interest and all challenges. I hope to establish a comprehensive perspective.
Let’s do this!
